Fun Google Flute Facts:
Flutes are the earliest known identifiable musical instruments. For instance, Paleolithic examples with hand-bored holes have been found.  A number of flutes, dating to about 53,000 to 45,000 years ago, have been found in the Swabian Jura region of present-day Germany.

In addition, some very delicate flutes were discovered in 1999 in central China, and are made of the wing bones of cranes. They date from about 9000 years ago and are called “gudi” or “bone flutes.”  Also, five to eight holes drilled in the bones were determined to have been put there to tune them for music.
